Perryville freshman Emarion Hampton has already developed a reputation as a clutch performer. Hampton's short runner banked off the glass and into the basket with six seconds remaining to lift the Panthers to a 43-41 triumph over host Rising Sun Friday afternoon. The North East boys basketball team went back to what had been working and enjoyed similar success.
The Indians built a big lead, saw Rising Sun cut it to four, and then pulled away again before holding on for a 73-67 triumph Tuesday night, February 6. With his team trailing by 14 points early in the fourth quarter, Perryville boys basketball coach Chris Johnson had a simple message for several of his top players who began the final period on the bench.
"We can win this game if you get your heads right," Johnson told them. They did both. The Panthers outscored North Harford 21-1 in the fourth quarter to prevail 50-44 Monday night, January 29. Special to The Herald Charlie Givens' long awaited homecoming game ended with a convincing 83-50 victory for his Elkton basketball squad on Friday night. The Perryville boys basketball team out-muscled Rising Sun 56-52 in a physical, foul-filled game Tuesday night, January 16.
Billy Boyer iced the game with two free throws and finished with a game-high 18 points as the Perryville boys basketball team earned its second straight win by beating Tome 46-42 Friday night.
The Titans, on the other hand, missed their last six free throw attempts. The North East boys basketball team got it done in the fourth quarter for the second straight game.
